The activities of our delegation are not limited only to the participation in the IM NATO 2018 Conference in Washington, D.C. in February 2018, but embrace numerous preparatory activities ( October 2018 – February 2019 ) as well as follow-up events ( spring 2019 ) .
All these activities are being organized in the free time of the delegates, external to University courses. It is to be said, furthermore, that the organization and realization of all these events are subjected to the sole responsibility of the seven delegation members.
Preparatory activities
- Selection of delegation members ( new selection process for the 2019 team OPEN)
- Weekly delegation meetings
- Organizational affairs
- Common information gathering and research on NATO, Belgium, and Belgium’s role/capacities/activities/engagement within NATO
- Presenting the results of individual research activities
- Fostering publicity and visibility of the project
- Visit to the NATO Headquarters in Brussels
- Briefing(s) at the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of Belgium to NATO
- Organization of several conferences with high standing personalities of politics, economics and NGOs, including the topic: “Counter-terrorism: NATO’s fight against terrorism” at ULB in December 2018 and “EU-US Security and Defense Cooperation” in April 2019.
IM NATO 2019 Conference in Washington, D.C.
At the conference taking place in Washington, D.C., our delegation is going to represent the Kingdom of Belgium. Right before the start of the simulation, our delegation will get a final briefing by the Embassy of Belgium in the USA.
The negotiations are taking place within six different committees, dealing with different agendas to be adopted at the beginning of the conference.
Follow-up activities
- Media and social media coverage in order to strengthen further the project’s visibility
- Administrative closure: debriefing, closing of the books, written report(s)
- Visit to SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe), NATO strategic military command, in Mons (Belgium), with a group of approximately 30-40 students of ULB
- Information session for ULB students interested in next year’s IM NATO
